2024 Gs Pay Scale Raise
As of Jan. 1, when the federal wage increase took effect, the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ wage cost index was 5.1% higher than a year earlier — meaning private sector wages rose 5.1% the last time federal workers were looked at. The post-increase BLS release, which covers the period through the end of March, showed that average wages in the private sector grew faster than this year, with the ECI up 4.8% year over year.
Federal Pay Raise Formalized By White House
The size of federal wage increases in the context of national economic data has become more concentrated over the past two years due to higher inflation, but the gap between federal and private sector wage increases has been a consistent feature of federal wage increases since 2011, according to a Federal News Network analysis of federal budget and ECI data.
That year, federal workers memorably received the first of a two-year series of zero percent pay raises. But according to BLS data, average private sector growth has been higher than federal growth every year since then.

Biden Issues Alternative Pay Letter For 2024 Federal Pay Raise
President Biden has proposed a 5.2 percent pay raise for both military and civilian workers in 2024. If Congress approves both increases, it would be the first time since 2010 that the federal government has boosted the private sector — assuming the employment price index returns to historic levels. .
Major legislative panels in both the House and Senate have already approved the military addition. But a civilian surge is likely to be more difficult in a Republican-controlled House. This group has historically been less motivated to raise wages.Last month, the House Republican Investigative Committee approved a plan that would de-emphasise across the board and replace them with a “merit-based” pay system.

Why We Expect The Job Market To Slow In 2024
All News Bureau of Labor Statistics Employment Cost Index federal wage increase and benefit wage increases Labor President Biden releases alternative wage plan letter to bring 2024 federal wage increases one step closer to reality. This is a necessary measure to increase the wages of federal employees in any year, unless the Federal Employees Pay Comparison Act of 1990 (FEPCA) is to be implemented. This has never happened since the bill was passed.
The title authorizes the implementation of alternative plans to adjust the wages of federal civilian employees, which are covered by the United States law, the general schedule and other wage systems, if the increase is due to “a national emergency or serious economic conditions affecting the public welfare.” Otherwise, it will be carried out improperly
Congress can also legislate on the amount of salary increases. Since it didn’t happen earlier this year, and there are many opportunities for Congress to do so in negotiations, a 2024 federal wage increase is unlikely.
As expected, the annual salary plan letter next year proposed the same pay increase for federal workers that was first included in the White House’s 2024 budget proposal.

Military Pay Charts Have Been Announced
Nearly 40 years ago, Congress passed the Federal Employees Pay Comparability Act (FEPCA). The purpose of the rule is to maintain the comparability of wages by locality, because wages are determined annually according to a general schedule. It has also been asked to set up several special pay schemes.
In summary, FEPCA’s general schedule created a two-part annual wage adjustment for federal employees. Every year there is a government salary review and a local salary review, which varies according to different salary areas.
The annual salary review is an automatic adjustment based on a formula Time has made this automatic adjustment irrelevant No president has followed this formula since the law was enacted. Because the formula would result in a big pay raise for the federal workforce this year, it won’t

The change described above will take effect on or after January 1, 2024, on the first day of the first applicable pay period.
