Gs Pay Scale 2023 Columbus Ga – President Obama is one step closer to finalizing the 2024 federal pay increase after he released his supplemental pay plan letter yesterday, which outlines the amount he wants to raise federal wages next year.
It would be ineffective to forecast price increases in 2024 for each local GS payment area. Once these numbers are finalized, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) will provide a copy of the 2024 General Plan (GS) salary schedule that includes the GS’s salary for 2024. This usually occurs in December.

In March, the Biden administration proposed a 5.2% federal wage increase through 2024. This is the first step in a complex process. Congress has shown no interest in approving another amount.

The next step occurred on August 31, 2023, when Chairman Rich issued the 2024 Federal Pay Raise Supplemental Pay Plan letter.
Title 5 of the United States Code permits the implementation of a pay adjustment plan for federal civilian employees, including public plans and certain other pay systems, if it is due to a “national emergency or serious economic conditions affecting the public welfare.” Otherwise it will be invalid.
Congress also mandates different amounts of wages. That was not done earlier this year, and because Congress has several opportunities to do so in pending legislation, raising wages for federal workers in 2024 is possible, but unlikely.
Based on Biden’s letter, assuming the 5.2% pay increase is the final amount, the local pay area average of 0.5% would be broken down into a 4.7% pay increase.

In 2023, the average salary increase is 4.6%. The 2023 pay increase was the largest in 20 years for the federal workforce. During the Bush administration, federal employees received a 4.6% pay increase in 2002. On the other hand, 2002 was better news for federal employees, as the inflation rate was 1.6%. (be seen
Thus, due primarily to inflation, federal wage increases in 2024 may exceed the 4.8% increase in wages for federal employees approved in 1981 during the Carter administration.

Although we will not know the rate increase for each local pay grade until later this year, it is possible to estimate how the base pay rate for each GS pay grade will change before calculating the final local pay rate.

The projected 2024 GS salary scale in this table is based on a projected 2024 federal salary increase of 5.2%, and a 4.7% increase in 2024 General Plan (GS) base salary.
Why only 4.7% and not 5.2%? 5.2% is probably the average increase, and when the federal government raises wages each year, it usually includes wage increases and an amount set aside for local wages. Because the President proposed a 4.7% base pay increase with 0.5% local pay in the Supplemental Pay Plan speech, we have applied the 4.7% figure to the projected 2024 GS pay scale.
Note that the 2024 GS pay scale will not be finalized until OPM releases final numbers after the 2024 federal pay increases are finalized by executive order. In most years, this happens in December. Last year, an executive order implementing the 2023 federal wage increase was issued on December 23.
This means that there will be an adjustment in the final numbers. The final adjustment generally reflects larger increases in areas with larger wage increases. This usually involves raising wages in large cities due to local wages. Here’s the 2023 GS pay schedule for each site.

In a new Federal Register notice published on June 28, 2023, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) proposed four new local pay areas. These four are:
Note that this list is central and has not been configured yet. In all likelihood, these four regions will be approved by the end of 2023 as they are added to the list of salary regions. We won’t know the pay increases in these new areas until OPM publishes the 2024 pay rates.
The 2023 GS salary scale is based on a 4.6% increase in average salary. The 2023 federal wage increases include local wage increases of 0.5 percent to 4.1 percent.

There are 15 General Service grades, and annual salaries range from 1 (lowest) to 15 (highest). The level of each job is determined by the employer based on difficulty, responsibility and qualifications required. In general, individuals within the General Service category qualify along these general lines:
Most federal employees in the public plan receive local GS pay, which is a geographic rate that reflects the wage level of non-federal workers in specific geographic areas. This salary level is determined through surveys conducted by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The BLS measures non-federal compensation in the labor market and compares it to federal wages for public service sector workers doing similar jobs in the same geographic area.
Each GS grade has 10 step ratios (Steps 1 through 10) through which employees can advance to higher grades in the federal profession. It’s called stepwise growth (WGI), and it’s based on acceptable performance and longevity (waiting 1 year for steps 1 to 3, 2 years for steps 4 to 6, and 3 years for steps 7 to 9). .
Each WGI equates to about a 3% increase in employee wages. In fact, the WGI is a pay increase based on the length of time a government job has been assigned to a specific step and grade in the public employment pay system.
